Bharathiar University is a State University established in 1982 at Coimbatore in the South-Indian of Tamil Nadu. This University is named after the famous Tamil poet Subramania Bharathiar. It is recognized and aided by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is evaluated by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the apex council has awarded “A” Grade. This seat of higher learning is also an affiliating University having jurisdiction over the districts of Coimbatore, Erode and the Nilgiris. This led to the University having 108 affiliated institutions which consists of 80 arts and science colleges, 29 colleges of education, eight management institutions, one Air Force administration college and one college of physical education. In addition to this, there are 31 research institutes belonging to State and Central Government organizations.

Bharathiar University caters to the educational needs of around 1, 50,000 students and research scholars. Here students are taught quality and innovative knowledge in levels of undergraduate, postgraduate and research. The academic responsibilities of this University is carried out by the well experienced faculty members who belong to the various schools of study namely Life Science, Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, Commerce and Management, Chemical Sciences, Computer Science and Engineering, Educational studies, Physical sciences, Economics, Mathematics and Statistics, Social Sciences, Tamil and other Indian Languages, English and other Foreign Languages and Distance Education.
