NTA NEET UG 2024 : Admit Cards Availble Now
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The NTA has been assigned by the Ministry of Health and Medical Sciences to conduct the NEET to admit students to the undergraduate medical courses in the various medical colleges across India. Aspiring candidates who want to pursue medical courses (including BDS and MBBS ones) can apply for NEET.
NEET is the sole entrance exam for admissions in the medical institutions throughout India, replacing all the state-level medical entrance tests.
From the year 2019 onwards, the NTA has started conducting NEET two times a year, during February and March each year.
Under NEET, the authorities draw a Merit List based on the candidates’ scores, following which the 300 BDS participating colleges and 355 MBBS colleges admit students accordingly.
Also, the NEET Merit Lists for national-level and state are drawn separately for the general category candidates and reserved classes, maintaining the state-based quotas and reservations in the medical institutions. Plus, NEET does not admit students under the management quota of private medical colleges.
Though NEET applies to nearly all medical colleges in India, some institutions are excluded from its purview. The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER, Chandigarh) and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) do not come under NEET, for they are guided by separate laws.
