Armed Forces Medical College Pune

Set up during the year 1948, the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) is traced to Pune, Maharashtra, India. The AFMC is recognized for being the first-ever medical college that the Armed Forces have established in any country within Asia. Also, this prestigious medical institution has the accreditation of the NAAC that has granted ‘A’ grade to the institution. More so, the AFMA has affiliation with the Medical Council of India (MCI) and Maharashtra University of Health Sciences.

As per the initiative of the BC Roy Committee, the AFMC was founded by merging many defense medical units. And the country’s armed forces administer the operations at AFMC.

Courses

At the AFMC, aspiring candidates can undertake postgraduate diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate courses in various medical fields. These include Medicine, Paramedics, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Nursing. AFMC students can build careers in the medical departments of the armed forces.

Under undergraduate-level courses, the AFMC offers the MBBS course and BSc in Nursing program.

In PG courses, the college conducts MD, MD/MS degree programs, Master’s degree in Hospital Administration, and M.Sc. degree in Anatomy. In addition, the AFMC has Super-Specialty and Postgraduate Diploma courses.

Admission Process

Aspiring candidates can apply for admissions in AFMC through registrations on the official website. The authorities select applicants based on how they perform in an entrance test or national eligibility exam and personal interview rounds. 

The intake for the MBBS course is 150; this figure includes 30 females, 115 males, and 5 NRIs. To be eligible for this course, the candidates have to qualify NEET PG that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) convenes.

The candidates are shortlisted on the basis of their scores in the NEET-PG. The selected candidates are invited for the screening rounds. These include Psychological Assessment Test (PAT), Test of English Language, Test of Logic and Reasoning (ToELR), and a comprehension test, interview, and medical exam.

As part of the selection process, the examiners consider the candidate’s score in the NEET PG and selection rounds.
