A Note on NCVT
The Union Government of India offers counselling services via the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) under its Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The NCVT was set up in the year 1956 by the Indian Government and this body conducts exams for 1st and 2nd year students enrolled in the vocational training courses. Also, the semester exams are held every year.
Students have a range of vocational courses to choose from and they can make their choice depending on their interests and aptitude. The NCVT conducts an array of short-term and long-term courses in different trades. These include welder, plumber, civil engineer assistant, mechanic, fitter, electrician, and architectural assistant – to list a few.
Students who secure a “PASS” grade in the 10th or 12th exams are eligible to apply for these vocational courses.
The duration of the vocational trade courses varies from 6 months to 2 years. These courses impart practical technical knowledge to the students. After course completion, ITI graduates can apply for jobs in various sectors, which include defence, railways, and engineering.
What are ITI Courses?
The Government of India runs various Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across India to provide technical training to youngsters. Both engineering courses and non-engineering programs are available for students who want to acquire technical skills to increase their employability and earn their livelihood.
Students receive extensive practical training in the ITI courses, which makes them eligible to work in the public and private sectors in the chosen field.
ITI students can also complete the apprenticeship program after completing the ITI trade courses to get higher-paying jobs.
The ITI training centres hone the practical skills of students, whereby they learn how to repair cars, fix electricity issues, and use computers, making them job-ready.
