The Government Jatashankar Trivedi College (GJTC) is traceable to the Balaghat district of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Having started operations in the year 1958, the GJTC has been named after the Late Jatashankar Trivedi. His younger brother, Shri Amritlal Trivedi donated land to start a college. The Department of Higher Education that comes under the Government of Madhya Pradesh set up the GJTC on the donated land.

The GJTC is the oldest higher educational institution and the sole postgraduate college in the Balaghat district. Initially, the GJTC was affiliated to Dr. Harisingh Gour University (the erstwhile University of Saugar). Later on, in the year 1996, the GJTC got affiliated to the Rani Durgawati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Also, the NAAC has granted the “B+” grade to the GJTC.

The GJTC has four faculties: Law, Commerce, Science, and Arts. This premier college conducts courses at both the undergraduate level and the postgraduate level.

Courses
At the GJTC, students can pursue eight undergraduate courses and 13 postgraduate programs. The college offers varied specializations under the undergraduate-level courses such as Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), Bachelor of Science (BSc), and Bachelor of Arts (BA). Among law courses, the GJTC offers the 3-year, full-time, undergraduate Bachelor of Law course.

As far as postgraduate courses are concerned, the GJTC offers courses in a variety of subjects. These include Hindi, English, Commerce, Zoology, Botany, Maths, among others.

Amenities
The GTJC campus, with a host of infrastructural facilities, spans over 4 acres of land. Sports arenas, internet connectivity, are computer hubs are some amenities at the college. More so, the college has a central library that is equipped with books and other reference material.
