by Set up in the year 1967, the Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (SBSU) enjoys affiliation with the University of Delhi (DU) and is a coeducational higher educational institution. The SBSU was built in memory of Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh, who played a crucial role in the fight for the Independence of Indian from the British regime. The SBSU is constituted of nine academic departments, imparting education in varied disciplines. These include Hindi, History, Political Science, Economics, and Commerce.
The College has been operating for 5 decades and gained recognition in academic and professional streams. Also, the SBSU offers an intellectually-stimulating learning environment for the pupils.
Besides, the College stood 17th rank among the colleges in India by the India Today Group.
Courses
Students can enrol for 10 undergraduate-level courses at SBSU. They can specialize in fields such as Science, Commerce, and Arts. Though under postgraduate courses, the College conducts only one in the Commerce field and that is the Master of Commerce one.
Candidates who have passed the Class XII exam are eligible to apply for the UG courses. The cut-off criteria are released by the College and eligible candidates are invited to apply. To admit pupils in the UG courses, the College considers their marks gained in the qualifying exam. They take into account the scores of one language and three best subjects.
Only Bachelor degree holders in Commerce are eligible for gaining admission in the Master of Commerce one. As part of the admission process for the PG courses, the College conducts the application process on the basis of the candidate’s marks in the qualifying exam or via entrance test that the DU convenes.
The candidates who hold the BCom (Hons.) degree from DU can apply for direct admission for the MCom program. They get admission based on their score in the qualifying exam. For the rest of the applicants, the selection process is conducted as per their score and rank in the entrance exam.
Amenities
Keeping in mind the students’ holistic development, the SBSU is developed with an array of facilities. The College campus has well-equipped computer laboratories. Also, the College library is computerized and offers Internet and Intranet services.
The College has made provisions for sports arenas as well. More so, the Canteen serves nutritious fare to staff members and students. Other than that, the College has seminar rooms, lush green lawns, healthcare facilities, banks, among others.
