The Zakir Husain Post Graduate Evening College (ZHPEC) is named after the former President of India, Dr Zakir Husain. He was a renowned educationist and freedom fighter. Zakir Husain College is the oldest higher educational institution in Delhi, having been established during the 17th century by Ghaziuddin Firoz (a commander in the army of Aurangzeb King) as a Madrassa. Later, in the year 1825, it became Delhi College. Then, during the mid-19th century, the College was shut down due to political issues. Though, later on, the institution started operations from Kashmiri Gate and shifted to Chandni Chowk. Presently, the College functions from Jawaharlal Nehru Marg in New Delhi.
Finally, the Zakir Husain Memorial College Trust took over the College management and renamed it as Zakir Husain College. The College started holding evening classes from the year 1958 onwards. The official website of ZHPEC is http://www.zakirhusainpgeve.in/.
