The Haryana Board of School Education (HBSE) was established in the year 1969 at Chandigarh is known as Board of School Education Haryana. It has the authority to conduct Middle, Matric and Senior secondary school examinations twice a year in the state through the affiliated schools of the state. HBSE is owned by the Department of School Education, Government of Haryana. Among the major responsibilities of the board includes prescribing the course of instruction, conducting the examinations, publishing the result of those examinations, prescribed the conditions for recognition of schools etc.
In the year 2006, HBSE has adopted the semester system for 2006-2007 sessions and became the first educational board in India to do so. It has also introduces the relative grading in all board classes such as Middle, Matric and Senior Secondary. The board conducts examinations twice a year for 8th, 10th and 12th class. The first semester exams are held in the month of September while the second semester exams are held in the month of March. Apart from this it also conducts the Haryana D.Ed entrance exam, Haryana Teachers Eligibility Test (HTET).
