The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board or GSEB was formed on 1st May 1960 by the state of Gujarat. It is responsible for conducting board examinations; provide opportunities for research and development do the needful for administration and intellectual direction for state’s higher education system. The main academic task of GSEB is the preparation of syllabus for secondary schools, recommendation of text-books, performance evaluation of schools, inspection of schools associated with board etc.
Every year the board conducts two main examinations one is secondary school certificate SSC for Xth standards and the other is Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) for XIIth standard. Apart from this the Board also holds the Talent Search exams for the students of VIIth and IXth standards for five major subjects which are divided in two major parts. GSHSE Board conducts main and supplementary exams every year in the month of March and July. More than 9 lakh students are going to appear in SSC examinations while 4.5 lakh are going to appear in HSC general stream. About 98 subjects are covered in the board examination and question papers are set in Hindi, English and Gujarati languages.
