Before the year 1976, all the high and secondary schools in the state of Tripura was affiliated under the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. The students of the state had to appear for their secondary and senior secondary examinations under the West Bengal Board. But later on in the year 1976, Tripura Board of Secondary Education conducted its first public examination. It is a state agency of the Government of Tripura which is responsible for the promotion and development of secondary education in the state. Most of the public schools in the state follow TBSE System.
With the abolition of old courses the board now conducts two major public examinations which are Madhyamik Pariksha (Secondary Examination) and Higher Secondary +2 stage examination both for the general as well as vocational courses. TBSE is one of the few boards in the country which has introduced the centralized Evaluation system from its very inception. Board conducts Madhamik/ 10th class exams or Secondary/12th class generally held in the month of March/April.
