The Haryana Board of School Education (HBSE) that is based in Bhiwani in the Indian state of Haryana administers the state-level entrance exam, the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET). The exam is conducted for recruiting teachers at government schools that the Department of School Education (DSE) recognizes. Through HTET, the different levels at which the candidates can apply for teacher positions include Primary Teacher (PRT), Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) and Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) ones.
The National Council of Teacher Education that comes under the DSE, Haryana, lays down the guidelines of conducting the HTET.
The HTET consists of three papers. Paper-I is conducted to recruit Primary Teachers for classes I to V; Paper-II, for Trained Graduate Teachers from Classes V to VIII; and Paper-III, for Lecturers or Post Graduate Teachers of Classes XI to XII.

HTET Exam: Application Process
The HTET aspirants can make online applications via the official website, htetonline.com. Before starting the application process, they must study the ‘Information Bulletin’ that is posted on the site. Then, they must select the ‘Application Form’ link and follow the given instructions and download the Application Form.
After accessing the HTET online application form, they must furnish the required details such as their name, educational qualifications, contact details, and date of birth.
As part of the application process, the applicants have to upload scanned copies of their thumb impression, signature and photograph in the specified format as well.
Also, they must pay the application fee. The next step is to review their application before submitting the same. Finally, they must keep a print copy of their application form for reference purposes.
HTET: Eligibility Criteria
Paper-I (for PRT)
- Pass Class XII while scoring minimum 50% marks and pass the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.EI.Ed). Also, if the candidate is studying in the final year of D.EI.Ed, then they are eligible to apply.
Or
- Secure at least 50% marks in Class XII exams and pass in the Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.EI.Ed)
Or
- The aspirant must score minimum 50% marks in Class XII and pass in the Diploma in Special Education Course
Paper-II (TGT)
- Must score minimum 50% marks in their Bachelor’s degree and pass the Bachelor of Education course
Or
- Secure at least 50% marks in Bachelor’s degree and successfully complete the D.EI.Ed program
Or
- Pass Class XII with minimum 50% marks and pass the B.EI.Ed program
Or
- Score minimum 50% marks in Class XII and complete the Integrated B.Sc. B.Ed and B.A. B.Ed courses
Paper-III (PGT)
- Pass Master’s degree with at least 50% marks and complete the Bachelor of Education course
HTET: Exam Pattern
HTET is held at three levels that is Paper-I for PRT, Paper-II for TGT, and Paper-III for PGT.
Paper-I
For Paper-I, the duration is 2 hours and 30 minutes. Also, the question paper has 150 objective-type questions, carrying 1 mark each. The syllabus is based on the varied topics of Classes I to V syllabus.
There are five sections in Paper-I: Pedagogy & Child Development (30 marks), Language-I (30 marks), Environmental Studies (30 marks), Language-II (30 marks) and Maths (30 marks).
Paper-II
Paper-II lasts for 2 hours and 30 minutes and totals to 150 marks. The question paper has 150 multiple-choice questions that carry 1 mark each. The syllabus is the same as of Classes VI to VII.
The five sections of Paper-II include Pedagogy and Child Development (30 marks), Maths or Science (30 marks), Language-1 (30 marks), Language-II (60 marks), and Social Science (60 marks).
Paper-III
Paper-III contains 150 objective-type questions and runs for 2 hours and 30 minutes. The syllabus conforms to the Classes IX to XII one. Also, each question carries 1 mark and the question paper totals to 150 marks.
Paper-III has four sections: Child Development and Pedagogy (30 marks), Language-I (30 marks), Language-II (30 marks), and Specific Subject (60 marks).
HTET: Admit Card
The admit cards become available to the candidates via the official website. On the site, the aspirant has to select the ‘Admit Card’ link for downloading their respective admit cards. They have to enter their details like date of birth and application number for the same. The candidate can, then, access their admit cards. They have to take a print out of their admit cards for carrying to the exam hall. Here, the examiners will check the admit cards to ascertain their identity.
Also, after receiving their admit cards, the applicant must check whether the details are correct or not. If there is a discrepancy, they should notify the authorities for making the corrections.
HTET: Exam Result
After the exam, the exam results of the candidates are released by the examining authorities on the official website. The aspirants have to only visit the official website for accessing their exam results. After entering their registration ID and password, the system displays their exam result. Then, they should take a print out of the same.
HTET: Answer Key
The answer key of HTET is posted on the official website after the exam date as well. To check the correct answers and analyze their performance, the candidates can download the answer key upon browsing the site.
