The Karnataka State Government has authorized the Centralized Admission Cell (CAC) to oversee the conduct of the Karnataka Teacher Eligibility Test (KARTET). The CAC comes under the Office of the Commissioner of Public Instruction in Bangalore. However, the responsibility of convening the exam lies with the School Education Board of Karnataka. The aspirants can apply for teacher positions at Primary and Secondary Levels by appearing for the state-level KARTET. For applying to KARTET, the candidates can visit the official website, http://www.schooleducation.kar.nic.in/.
Teachers Eligibility Test is conducted across India’s states with the aim to improve and standardize the quality of teaching standards in the country.
KARTET comprises 2 papers that are Paper-I and Paper-II. Paper-I is relevant for applying to Primary Level teacher positions that include for classes I-V; and Paper-II, for Secondary Level teacher posts for classes VI-VIII.
After passing KARTET, the applicants receive the ‘Eligibility Certificate’ that qualifies them to apply for teacher posts in Karnataka schools. The Certificate is valid for 5 years from the date of issuance.
No limits are imposed on the number of attempts for the KARTET aspirants. Also, if any candidate has cleared KARTET, they can re-appear for the exam for improving their tally.

KARTET: Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for Paper-I and Paper-II are different. Thus, the candidates should read the norms thoroughly and then, apply only if they are eligible.
For Paper-I
He / she has to pass Intermediate exams with a minimum 50% score. Also, they should pass or be pursuing the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.EI.Ed) or Bachelor of Elementary Education courses.
For Paper-II
He / she must possess a Bachelor’s degree (BBA/BSc/BTech/BCom) while scoring at least 50% aggregate marks. Additionally, they have to pass or be pursuing courses such as the Diploma in Elementary Education or the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) ones to be eligible for the exam.
KARTET: Application Procedure
The KARTET candidates have to submit online applications through the official website to appear for the exam. The site contains all the information and they must read the instructions before applying. The first step in the application process is to register on the website, following which they receive their login details on their given email address. Then, using their login credentials, they can sign in to their respective accounts and follow by downloading the KARTET Application Form.
The next step is to fill in the required fields in the Application Form. Moreover, they must upload scanned copies of their signature and photograph. Tendering the Application Fee is mandatory too.
Besides, they have to review their applications before clicking on the ‘Submit’ tab. They must also maintain a copy of the Confirmation Page for their records.
KARTET: Exam Pattern
Both Paper-I and Paper-II contain 150 questions that are multiple-choice ones. With each correct answer carrying 1 mark, the question papers total to 150 marks each. The duration for both the papers is 90 minutes each.
Paper-I comprises five sections – including Child Development Studies (30 marks), Environmental Sciences (30 marks), Maths (30 marks), Language-I (30 marks), and Language-II (30 marks).
Paper-II incorporates four sections with the inclusion of Child Pedagogy (30 marks), Maths & Science applies to Maths and Science teachers (60 marks) / Social Science applies to Social Science teachers (60 marks), Language-I (30 marks), and Language-II (30 marks).
KARTET: Admit Card
The candidates have to mandatorily carry their Admit cards to the exam hall. They can obtain their Admit cards via the official website. The authorities upload the Admit cards and the candidates are informed about the dates on which they can access their Admit cards.
The applicants can access their Admit cards by browsing the official website and click on the ‘Download Admit Card’ link. The system, then, displays their Admit Cards, after which they should take a print copy.
More importantly, they must check if the details on the Admit cards are correct. If not, they have to approach the authorities to make the necessary changes.
KARTET: Exam Result
The applicants have to visit the official website for checking their KARTET results online. They have to enter details (such as their Roll Number and Date of Birth) to view their results. Moreover, they should keep a print copy for reference purposes.
