The Kerala Government Education Board is entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test (KTET). The KTET is a state-level entrance exam that is held for short-listing eligible aspirants for teacher positions at Primary, Upper Primary and High School classes across India’s Kerala’s state.
The KTET conforms to the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) of Kerala guidelines while working in unison with the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) of the Department of General Education of the Government of Kerala. The KTET consists of four categories as seen below:
- Category-I: For Lower Primary classes
- Category-II: For Upper Primary classes
- Category-III: For High School classes
- Category-IV: For Language, Specialist and Physical Education Teachers
KTET: Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for all four categories for applicants in the general category are detailed below. However, the reserved classes are given relaxation as per the Government of Kerala directives.
For Category-I
He / she has to secure minimum 45% marks in the Senior Secondary exams and the 2-year Trained Teacher’s Certificate that the Board of Examination of the Government of Kerala issues
Or
He/ she must score minimum 45% marks in Senior Secondary exams and pass the 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education course
Or
He / she has to pass the Senior Secondary exams with minimum 50% marks and the 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education program or the 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education) course
For Category-II
He / she has to pass BCom/BSc/BA degree courses and the 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education or the Trained Teachers’ Certificate program
Or
He / she must score minimum 45% marks in BCom/BA/BSc and pass the 1-year Bachelor in Education course
Or
He / she should secure at least 50% marks and pass the 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education course
Or
He / she must pass Senior Secondary exams while scoring minimum 50% marks and the 4-year BA Ed/B.Sc.Ed. or BA/B.Sc.Ed
For Category-III
He / she has to secure BCom/BSc/BA degree with minimum 45% marks and the Bachelor of Education degree
He / she must pass BE with minimum score of 45% marks and LTTC
For Category-IV
He / she should be qualified for the respective posts of Language teachers, Physical education teachers, and Specialist teachers.
KTET: Application Form
The aspirants who want to apply for KTET can submit their applications online via the official website. First, they have to register on the site by entering some basic details, following which they receive their login details. The next step is to sign into their accounts with their login credentials. Then, they can access the online application form.
Subsequently, they must fill in the required details in the application form. Also, they have to upload scanned copies of the required documents (with the inclusion of their photograph and signature).
The application process includes tendering the application fee as well. The various modes of payment to be availed are card payment and net banking.
Reviewing the overall application and keeping a print copy are, also, compulsory.
KTET: Exam Pattern
The question papers for Category-I, Category-II, Category-III and Category-IV last for 150 minutes each. The papers contain 150 multiple-choice questions where the candidates can score 1 mark for each correct answer.
The Category-I paper has five sections including Child Studies (30 marks), Environmental Sciences (30 marks), Mathematics (30 marks), Language-I (30 marks), and Language-II (30 marks).
Under Category-II paper, there four sections: Child Development (30 marks), Language-I (30 marks), Language-II (30 marks), and Maths & Science teacher or Social Science teacher or any other teacher (60 marks).
The Category-III paper is divided into three parts: Adolescent Studies (40 marks), Language (30 marks), and Subject-specific content (80 marks).
The Category-IV paper contains three sections that are Child Development Studies (30 marks), Language (40 marks), and Subject-specific areas (80 marks).
KTET: Admit Card
The admit cards of the eligible candidates are posted on the official website by the examining authorities after they review all the applications. The candidates are intimated about the same. Then, they have to download their admit cards from the official website. Also, they must maintain a print copy to carry to the exam venue.
The admit card is a mandatory document that the candidates have to carry to the examination hall. This is important because the authorities can ascertain their identity with the admit cards.
Moreover, if the applicant notices any discrepancies in their admit cards, they should inform the authorities who will make the necessary changes.
KTET: Answer Key
The authorities release the Answer Key on the official website as well. Also, the candidates can download the same by browsing the official website. Here, they must click on the ‘Check KTET Answer Key’ tab, after which they should input the requisite details like date of birth and roll number. Thereafter, they are able to download the answer key and measure their performance.
KTET: Result & Merit List
The candidates’ KTET results and merit list is uploaded on the official website by the authorities. The candidates have to visit the official website for viewing their results and the merit list. If they appear on the Merit List, they have to approach the District Educational Officer and furnish their original documents. Then, the authorities issue the KTET certificate. With the certificate, the candidates are eligible to apply for teacher posts in Kerala schools.
