Lakshadweep is an archipelago with 36 Islands and recognized to be smallest union territory in India. Similar to the rest of India, Lakshadweep conducts the state-level Teacher Eligibility Test as well.The aspirants who want to teach in schools across Lakshadweep have to apply for the Lakshadweep Teacher Eligibility Test (LAK TET). For teaching Primary Level (classes I-V), LAK TET Paper-I is applicable. And to teach Upper Primary (classes VI-VIII), LAK TET Paper-II applies.
The candidates, also, have the option of applying for both Paper-I and Paper-II if they want to teach classes I to VIII. Then, they have to appear for submit separate applications for both papers and appear for both exams.
The Department of School Education that works under the Government of Lakshadweep bears the responsibility of conducting the LAK TET. The official website of LAK TET is http://www.lakshadweep.nic.in/.
Upon qualifying the LAK TET, the candidates can avail the ‘Eligibility Certificate’ that makes them eligible to apply for teacher posts in schools across Lakshadweep.
An important note pertaining to TETs is that qualifying the exams does not confer any rights of Recruitment to the candidates; only they become eligible to apply for teacher positions in schools.
LAK TET: Eligibility Criteria

For Paper-I
The candidate has to clear 12th standard exams with minimum 50% aggregate marks. More so, they should pass the 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education or the 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education or the 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education) programs. Also, if they are pursuing the final years of the above-mentioned courses, then they are invited to apply.
For Paper-II
The applicant has to obtain BCom/BSc/BA degree and must have passed or should be appearing for the 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
Or
Must have a BA/BCom/BSc degree with 50% aggregate marks and pass or be pursuing the 1-year Bachelor of Education program.
Or
Should have a BSc/BA/BCom degree with at least 45% aggregate marks and has to pass or must be pursuing the 1-year Bachelor in Education (Special Education) program
Or
Clear the 12th standard exams with minimum 50% marks and must pass or should be appearing for the 4th year of the 4-year BAEd or BScEd courses
LAK TET: Application Process
The LAK TET authorities accept online applications and the aspiring candidates have to visit the official website for applying. The first step of the application process entails registering on the site, following which they receive their login credentials. The next step is to sign in to their respective accounts for downloading the Online Application Form.
Subsequently, they have to fill in the required fields in the Application Form. Also, uploading scanned copies of their signature and photograph comprise the application process. Additionally, they are required for pay the Application Fee.
Then, the candidates must check their applications and click the ‘Submit’ tab. The system shows the ‘Confirmation Page’ thereafter and they must maintain a print copy of the same for their records. Moreover, they have to submit a print copy of the duly filled application form, along with their documents, to the District Officer Education.
LAK TET: Admit Card
The Admit Cards of the candidates who are found to be eligible are released by the authorities on the official website. The Admit Cards are made available on the official website and the applicants have to click on the ‘Download Admit Card’ option and enter a few basic details, following which they gain access to their respective ones.
Admit Cards contain details like Candidate’s Name, Exam Venue, and Exam Date – among others.
Admit Cards have significance for they help in establishing the candidate’s identity. Thus, the aspirants must carry their Admit Cards to the exam hall for the exam authorities to ascertain their identity.
LAK TET: Exam Pattern
Paper-I and Paper-II contain 150 objective-type questions each and the candidates have 2 hours and 30 minutes to answer each paper. The questions have four options each and the applicants have to select the right one to score 1 mark. Also, if they select incorrect answers, then their marks are not deducted.
Paper-I incorporates five parts, with each part carrying 30 marks; they are Child Studies, Environmental Studies, Child Pedagogy, Language-I, and Language-II.
For Paper-II, the four sections include Language-I having 30 marks, Language-II having 30 marks, Child Pedagogy having 30 marks, and Maths & Science or Social Science (for Maths & Science teachers or Social Science teachers, respectively) having 60 marks.
LAK TET: Exam Result
The LAK TET results are uploaded on the official website and the candidates are informed about the dates on which they can view their exam results. To download their exam results, they have to click on the ‘Download Exam Result’ option and follow by entering a few basic details. Then, the system shows their exam results and they can maintain a copy for their records.
