The State Council of Educational Research and Training in Punjab (SCERT, Punjab) is responsible for holding the state-level entrance exam, the Punjab Teacher Eligibility Test (Punjab TET) in India’s Punjab state. Aspirants who want to become teachers in Punjab schools can apply for the entrance exam. However, they must satisfy the given eligibility criteria for applying.
Punjab TET entails 2 papers that are Paper-I and Paper-II. Paper-I is for those aspiring candidates for Primary Level (Classes I to V) teacher positions; and Paper-II, for applicants who aspire to become Secondary Level (Classes VI to VIII) teachers.

Punjab TET: Eligibility Criteria
For Paper-I (Classes 1st to 5th)
The candidate has to pass the Higher Secondary exams with minimum 50% aggregate marks and complete the 2-year Diploma in Education course.
For Paper-II (Classes 6th to 8th)
The applicant must secure at least 50% marks in Higher Secondary exams and hold a 4-year Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
Punjab TET: Application Process
To apply for the Punjab TET, the candidate has to apply online via the official website www.tetpunjab.com. However, before filling the Application Form, they must select the ‘Notifications’ tab and read all the given instructions. Then, they must register on the site, following which they can sign into their account with the given credentials and download the Punjab TET Application Form.
After they access the Application Form, they must furnish the required details. Moreover, they must upload the requisite documents – including passport-size photograph and signature in the specified format. For applying, they must pay the application fee via the various payment modes too. These include credit card, debit card, or net banking.
The subsequent step is to review their application before final submission. Also, they must obtain a print copy of their application for reference purposes.
Punjab TET: Selection Procedure
The Punjab TET selection process is of three types as seen in the following details.
Category I
After passing this exam, the candidate is eligible to teach the lower primary levels that include Classes from 1st to 5th.
Category II
This exam qualifies the successful candidates to take up teacher posts at Upper Primary levels where they can teach classes from 6th to 8th.
Category III
By passing this exam, the candidates are eligible for teacher positions in all government-recognized schools across the state.
Punjab TET: Examination Pattern
The Punjab TET is held via offline or pen and paper mode.
Paper-I is for candidates who want to apply for teacher positions in lower primary classes that include from 1st to 5th ones. Paper-2 is conducted for aspirants who want to become teachers at upper primary levels that include from classes 6th to 8th ones.
If an applicant wants to appear for both papers and teach classes 1st to 8th, then they have to submit separate applications for Paper-I and Paper-II.
Both Paper-I and Paper-II consist of 150 multiple-choice questions. Also, the total of each paper is 150 marks. For correct answers, the candidate scores 1 mark.
Paper-I has five sections that contain 30 questions each. The sections include Child Pedagogy, Environmental Studies, Language-I, Maths, and Language-II.
Paper-II contains four sections: Language-I that is Punjabi (30 marks), Child Development (30 marks), Language-II that is English (30 marks), and Mathematics or Social Sciences (60 marks).
Punjab TET: Admit Card
After receiving and processing the applications, the authorities release the candidates’ admit cards on the official website. The applicant has to download their respective admit card after clicking on the ‘Admit Card’ link and follow by entering their basic details.
Admit card is important and the candidate has to carry the same to the exam hall for the authorities to ascertain their identity. Also, they must download their respective admit card and check if all the details are correct. In cases of discrepancies, they can notify the authorities for the corrections.
Punjab TET: Exam Result
The exam results are posted by the authorities on the official website. To pass the exam, the candidates have to score minimum 60% marks if applying via the general category. The scheduled classes can avail the benefit of 5% relaxation in their scores.
To view their results, the candidate has to click on the ‘Download Exam Result’ tab and enter the required details. Then, the system shows the exam results and they can take a printout for having a copy. Also, they receive the Eligibility Certificate via post.
