The Common Admission Test (CAT) is conducted for admitting students in the management courses of India’s prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). Every year, the IIMs hold the exam on a rotational basis.

CAT: Exam Preparation Tips
- Solve previous years’ CAT papers to know the areas where improvement is needed and devote enough time for practice to become proficient in them.
- Always start early when preparing for the exams. By doing so, the candidates become familiar with the exam pattern and increase their chances of excelling in the exams.
- For getting additional practice, the aspirants must, also, take mock tests every 15 days or so. Here, again, they should assess their overall performance and work to improve in their weak areas.
- Learn the calculation tricks and apply them on a daily basis to improve accuracy and heighten speed.
- The applicants should become well-versed with the subject fundamentals and practice using the toughest material to analyze their knowledge of the basics.
- Read newspapers, editorials, and books to increase vocabulary and for remaining updates on the latest trends.
- Set achievable study goals and be diligent in reaching them.
- Study for 2 hours and take breaks of 10-15 minutes before commencing the following session. Also, you should make sure to complete the entire syllabus in the different study sessions.
- Develop time management skills by working with a ‘time-deadline’ for solving the queries.
- Revise mathematical formulae on a regular basis. More so, you can make short notes of the formulas for help in daily revision.
- Get adequate practice on both formulae-based and questions and the concept-based ones by taking practice tests regularly.
- Take time to relax a few days before giving the exam. Also, you should reduce your study period as the exam date inches closer.
- There is negative marking system, so do not attempt questions that you find difficult to answer. Only if you can eliminate 2-3 choices, then answer the difficult questions.
- Keep your admit card and stationery kit ready well in advance to avoid getting stressed on the final days.
- Remain healthy by eating properly, sleeping well, and practicing meditation techniques.
