The IBPS PO exam is held to select eligible candidates for the posts of Probationary Officers (PO) in the country’s various public sector banks. The Institute for Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has the responsibility of conducting this exam.
The IBPS was constituted by the banking industry and commenced operations from the year 1975 onwards. Then, in the year 1984, the IBPS started to function as an independent entity. Presently, IBPS regulates the placement and promotion of candidates at India’s public sector banks. The aspirants have to appear for the exams that the IBPS conducts to have a career in public sector banks.
To be eligible for the IBPS PO exam, the aspirants have to secure a minimum of 60% marks during graduation and from a recognized educational Board.
The exam entails Common Written Test (CWT) and Personal Interview where only the candidates who pass the CWT qualify for the Interview rounds. The candidates have to score 40%, or above, to be eligible.
The CWT lasts for 2 hours, having 200 questions. The question paper has five sections: English Language (40 marks), Reasoning (50 marks), General Awareness (40 marks), Computer Knowledge (20 marks), and Quantitative Aptitude (50 marks).
IBPS PO Exam: Preparation Tips
Quantitative Aptitude
This section evaluates the candidate’s mathematical skills. Also, the topics covered include Profit & Loss, Time & Distance, Fractions, Number System, Mensuration, and Probability. To prepare for this section, make sure to learn the multiplication tables, and practice solving sums daily. This helps to learn mental tricks and solve the problems before time, too.
Reasoning
The Reasoning section assesses the aspirant’s mental ability and observational powers. Focus on solving problems that contain figures and mirror images as part of the preparation for this section.
General Awareness
Normally, the General Awareness section contains questions that are based on the banking field (75%) and current affairs (25%). For this section, you must prepare by studying the various banking policies and the changes that have been introduced over the years, along with their impacts on the country’s economic scenario.
Also, study about the latest Budget, in addition to the recent updates in areas of Geography, History, and Science. Moreover, make sure to read newspapers, magazines. More so, you must watch news and browse news sites to increase your General Awareness.
English Language
This section tests the candidates on their command over the English Language. For preparing for this section, the candidates should read books and, also, refer to English Grammar books. Moreover, they must subscribe to and read English newspapers. This helps to learn new English words; and, in the process, they improve their vocabulary. Online grammar tests must be taken to prepare for this section too.
Computer Knowledge
This section contains questions on basic computer applications. You can study from basic NCERT Computer books to increase your knowledge of computers and prepare for this section.
Time Management
Develop time management skills. During the exam, divide your time among the different sections and try to answer all questions. Answering 200 questions in 2 hours may seem tough, but with good preparation doing so is possible.
Read Daily
To have a career in the public sector banks, you must inculcate the habit of reading newspapers and magazines. Besides, you must refer to books on Current Affairs, Business, and Banking.
Mock tests
A series of mock tests are available online. Get sufficient practice by solving them regularly. More so, you can learn about the exam pattern and prepare accordingly.
