The Central Board of Secondary Examination oversees the conduct of the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET-UG). The NEET-UG qualifies the candidates for getting admission in the undergraduate Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (courses) that are offered by India’s various medical institutes. Upon completion of the courses, the pupils can have careers in Medical Sciences.
To apply for NEET, the applicants have to fulfill the given eligibility norms. If applying via the General Category, the aspirants should secure 50% aggregate marks in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
Also, they have to pass separately in subjects such as English Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Besides, they must clear an entrance exam and score 50% to be eligible to appear for the NEET-UG examination.
During the months May-June, the NEET-UG is convened. Also, the exam is based on Science subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The NEET-UG question paper contains 180 multiple-choice questions and the candidates have 3 hours to answer the same. For a correct answer, the candidate scores 4 marks; and for incorrect ones, 1 mark is deducted.
NEET-UG: Preparation Tips
- As part of your NEET-UG preparation, the first step is to study the entire exam syllabus. Also, draw comparisons between the syllabus of NEET-UG and your Board exam one. If there are common chapters, you can prepare for both examinations together. Then, you have enough time to cover the rest of the NEET-UG syllabus too.
- The next step is to chart-out your study plan. Make sure to cover the entire syllabus when drafting your study schedule. Also, leave sufficient time for revision and practice.
- Invest efforts in your weak areas. Normally, you are strong in some subjects and weak in others. Work to improve in your weak areas. In the process, take help from teachers and friends too.
- Take mock tests regularly. Note that you have 180 minutes (3 hours) to answer 180 questions. Hence, the time limit per question is 1 minute. For the same, you must develop your time management skills. Mock tests can give you enough practice to do so. Also, try to solve the questions in lesser time when solving the mock tests.
- Medical exams contain several questions on the Biology subject. Thus the candidates must focus on understanding the different Biology concepts thoroughly to excel in the exam.
- In addition to Biology, other Science subjects (such as Physics and Chemistry) must be covered as well.
- Avoid guesswork. You may tend to apply guesswork to difficult questions. However, note that you will lose marks if the answer is incorrect because the exam has negative marking. So, leave the questions that you are not confident about.
- Take measures to mentally and physically prepare yourself also. All the same, ensure to eat healthily, follow an exercise regime and, more importantly, sleep well. To improve your concentration levels, you must practice meditation and yoga as well.
