The National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted by the National Educational Testing Bureau of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and twice on an annual basis in India. NET determines the eligibility of Indian Nationals for lectureship (both at the university level and college level) and the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) awards, to set minimum standards in teaching and research.
The NET exam is held via online mode and consists of 2 exam papers that are Paper 1 and Paper 2. The question papers have objective-type questions where 4 options are given, having one correct answer. Paper 1 evaluates the teaching/research aptitude of the applicants and Paper 2 tests them on their chosen subjects.
The duration of Paper 1 is 1 hour, with 50 questions; and Paper 2 lasts for 2 hours, having 100 questions. For every correct answer, the applicant scores 2 marks.
