The recruitment of candidates for the various civil posts in India’s varied states is conducted by the particular state’s Provincial Civil Services (PCS) via the PCS exam. The Civil officers come under the jurisdiction of the respective state’s government and they cannot take transfers to a different state other than where they are posted.
Also, the salaries and pensions are decided by the respective state governments. The General Administration Department or the Department of Personnel is the state’s appointed agency that is responsible for managing and training the state civil officers.

- Study about the specific’s states history and geography. This is important because the Public Service Commission of each state holds the exam.

- Keeping in mind that the syllabus of the UPSC and PCS exams is similar, the aspiring candidates can appear for both exams simultaneously.
