by The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is the conducting body of the Staff Selection Commission-Combined Graduate Level (SSC-CGL) Exam that is held in three phases: Tier-I (200 marks), Tier-II (400 marks), and Tier-III (100 marks). For Tier-I and Tier-II, the question paper consists of 200 marks each. In the months through June and July, the SSC-CGL exam is conducted.
The varied sections in the Tier-I exam include English, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness, and General Intelligence & Reasoning.
For appearing for Tier-II exam, the candidate has to clear Tier-I exam. The Tier-II exam contains objective questions and is based on subjects like English and Quantitative Ability.
To appear for Tier-III, the aspirant has to clear both Tier-I and Tier-II stages. Also, the Tier-III phase entails the Personal Interview round. Here, the candidate has to take a Skill and a Computer Proficiency Test.
The eligibility criteria of the SSC-CGL exam require the candidate to be a graduate from a recognized educational Board. Moreover, the different posts vary in age norms, thus the aspirants must apply only if they fulfill the age criteria of the post that they are applying to.
Upon clearing the exam, the applicant can gain employment in the various ministries of the Union Government of India and subordinate agencies. The SSC is responsible for recruiting aspiring candidates for both Group B (both technical and non-technical) and Group C (technical) of the Government-run offices, except the ones of the Railway Recruitment Boards & Industrial Establishments.
Note that there are several posts that a candidate can apply to. However, they must fill their preferences at the time of applying for their choices will be considered as the final ones.
Among the varied positions that the applicant can apply to include Inspector, Auditor, Tax Assistant, Accountant, Sub-Inspector, Statistical Investigating Officer, and Divisional Accountant – among others.
SSC-CGL Exam: Preparation Tips
- For the Tier-I General Awareness section, you must study about domestic and international current events. Also, the section covers subjects like Scientific Research, General Policy, Economics, Science, Culture, and History. To study for this section, make sure that you learn the basics of all the subjects.
- The Tier-I and Tier-II Quantitative Aptitude sections cover a wide range of topics. These include Ratio, School Algebra, Trigonometric ration, Percentage, Number Relations, Fractions, Decimals, Whole Numbers, Time & Distance, Partnership, Discount, Profit & Loss, Heights & Distances, Trigonometric ratio, and Histogram. As part of your preparation for this section, you must get enough practice by solving sums and problems. By doing so, you become confident of answering the section questions and can, then, avoid guesswork.
- For the Tier-I and Tier-II English section, the candidate should improve their proficiency in the language. For the same, they can refer to grammar books and develop the habit of reading. Also, the section evaluates the candidate’s writing ability and comprehension. Thus, you must practice different types of comprehension too.
- The Tier-III Personal Interview and Skill Test Round assesses the applicant’s overall personality and computer efficiency. For your preparation, you must take steps to develop your personality. Also, mentally prepare on the basic personal questions that are expected during the Interview round. Moreover, you must study the various responsibilities of the given post to come across as an intelligent and confident person.
- Study the entire syllabus and cover all topics when you draft your study time table.
- Plan to answer all the questions in the question paper. You should hone your time development skills to do so. Now, during practice, you must attempt to answer the questions in the given time limit to manage your time suitably.
- For practice, make sure to take online tests, mock tests, and practice tests on a regular basis.
- Keep in mind that practice is key. Through practice, you learn shortcuts and can solve the test papers within the time limit. However, first, study the entire syllabus and, then, leave the final days only for practice.
