In the year 1961, the Apprentices Act came into force to technically train apprentices through the use of the available resources. Under the Apprenticeship Training Scheme, the aspirants get on-the-job training and practical experience, through which they are better equipped to handle the different situations at the workplace. Under this Act, employers are obligated to recruit apprentices and permit them to work in the respective trades.
Apprenticeship Training
Apprenticeship training includes both basic (theoretical practice) and practical training at workplaces. Under this scheme, the candidates are given exposure to the actual working conditions. As part of Apprenticeship training, the candidates gain technical know-how and practical experience and also, develop the requisite skills of the respective trades. At the workplace, the apprentices receive training from the company staff. Competent managers make sure that the apprentices conduct the training as per the structured training modules for honing the skills of the apprentices.
The apprentices are paid a stipend for the training duration; 50% of the amount is reimbursed by the Government of India to the employer.
After completion of the training, the candidates have to clear the All India Trade Test (AITT) that the National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) conducts. The successful candidates are conferred with the ‘National Apprenticeship Certificate’ by the Union Government of India. The certificate is recognized at all employment centres across India and validates that the person has the given expertise.
Apprentices can receive training at well-resourced Private Sector companies and State / central organizations with world-class training facilities.
Apprentices have a wide choice of engineering and non-engineering trades to choose from, as specified by the Government of India.
The aspirants can register and apply for Apprenticeship training and placements, and view their exam results, on the official website of the Ministry of Skill Development And Entrepreneurship, http://www.apprenticeship.gov.in/Pages/Apprenticeship/Home.aspx.
