In India’s Assam state, the body that governs the vocational training centres is the Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training of Assam, the Ministry of Labour & Employment, and the Government of Assam. In India, the policies that govern the government-run Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and privately-owned Industrial Training Centers (ITCs) are put forward by the National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) which is the advisory body and entrusted with the responsibility by the Union Government of India. In the various Indian states, the NCVT’s guidelines are implemented by the State Council of Vocational Training (SCVT).
Under the skill-based courses, there are several trades that the aspirants can choose from, under the NCVT and SCVT category. The eligibility norms of the varied courses are different, and they must read the different criteria carefully prior to applying.
To cater to the needs of the technical workforce of the varied industries, the Craftsmen Scheme was introduced during the 1950s, by the Government of India, for the constitution of the skill training centres. The aspiring candidates are conferred with the National Trade Certificates (NTCs) or State Level Trade Certificates (SLTC) upon course completion, depending on the trades they have chosen. Also, they can apply for national-level or state-level jobs on the basis of their eligibility certificates.
