Lakshadweep is a grouping of 36 islands; and one of India’s smallest union territories. Kavaratti is Lakshadweep’s capital city and also, a main town of the islands. In Lakshadweep, vocational education is supervised by the Director of Labour, Employment and Training (DLET) of the Union Territory Administration of Lakshadweep, the Union Government of India.

Like the rest of India, Lakshadweep runs an array of engineering and non-engineering trade courses, as per the instructions of the National Council of Vocational Education (NCVT). However, the NCVT’s policies are enforced by the respective State Council of Vocational Training (SCVT) of the varied Indian states.

In India, the industrial sector does not have adequate skilled resources; and thus, there is a growing demand for skilled resources. Hence, the Government has constituted technical training centers to impart skills training to the aspiring candidates; and equip them to work in various trades. Upon course completion, the students can avail employment opportunities at the national or state level, depending on whether they have opted for the NCVT or SCVT trade programs respectively.

As part of the vocational education, the students are given systematic training. Thus, the skilled persons can work in industries for the qualitative and quantitative improvement of industrial produce.
