The Director of Employment and Craftsmen Training at Kohima, Nagaland, which comes under the Government of Nagaland, handles the day-to-day functions of the state’s skill-based training centres. Due to the rapid pace of development in the state, the demand for skilled resources has risen. Thus, to cater to the professional manpower needs of industries, the state is investing in vocational training through various government-based Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and private-based Industrial Training Centers (ITCs).
The National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) bears the responsibility of drafting the policies of vocational training; and in turn, the State Council of Vocational Training (SCVT), of the different Indian states, is responsible for policy implementation.
There is a wide choice in NCVT and SCVT trade courses; their duration ranges from 6 months to 2 years. Upon successful completion of the NCVT trades, the students are conferred with the National Level Certificate. For the SCVT ones, the State Level Trade Certificates are given after course completion. Thereafter, depending on their respective certifications, the candidates are eligible to apply for jobs at the national level or state level.

The vocational trade courses are conducted in 4 semesters; and exams are held for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th semesters.
