Sikkim is a state in India that is traced to the Northeastern belt of the country. The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) operates under the Human Resource Development Department and is in charge of coordinating vocational education in the Sikkim state. Across the Indian states, the National Council of Vocational Education (NCVT) is the appointed body for framing the guidelines for the conduct of technical training. As part of the vocational trade programs, aspiring candidates can gain technical know-how and develop skills to work in industries. There are more than 150 trades (with the inclusion of both the engineering and non-engineering ones) for the aspirants to choose from; the varied trades are categorized under the NCVT or SCVT category.

After successful completion of the chosen courses, the students are conferred with the National Trade Certificates or the State Level Trade Certificates. The former certifications are applicable for availing the jobs at the national level; the latter, at the state level.
