The administrative body of vocational education in India’s Tripura state is the Department of Industries & Commerce of the Government of Tripura. To increase the availability of skilled resources in India, the various Indian states have constituted several technical training centres, including government-owned Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and privately-financed Industrial Training Centers (ITCs).

Young students from all over the State of Tripura desire to choose a special educational course which they can study and make a career out of. These technical courses are offered by the Industrial Training Institutes and the students were provided with knowledge of technical courses in various trades in both theoretical and practical methods. Students were provided with training in 2-4 semesters in various trades of Architectural Assistant, Basic Cosmetology, Cane Willow & Bamboo Worker, Carpenter, Computer Operator & Programming Assistant, DTP Operator, Dress Making, Driver cum Mechanic, Draughtsman, Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, Fitter, Fashion Design & Technology, Interior Design & Decoration, Plumber, Turner, Stenographer and all types of mechanic related courses.

The policies that govern the ITIs and ITCs are drafted by the National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT), and the State Council of Vocational Training (SCVT) is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the given NCVT’s guidelines.

The first ITI in Tripura was established by the respective state government and started operations during the year 1958. Then, over the years, the state set up a series of more skill training centres. With the objective of catering to the technical knowledge requirements of the state’s youth population and the manpower needs of companies, the training hubs were formed.

Moreover, the course curriculum of the various engineering and non-engineering trades (coming under the ambit of the NCVT or SCVT grouping) is updated on a regular basis, as per the latest trends. By doing so, the students become well-equipped to work in the respective trades and can help in bridging the gap of skilled persons.
