In India, there are more than 660 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) that are spread across the varied states and union territories. The JNVs are government-run schools that have been set up to impart quality education to the youth population of the country’s rural sections. The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) is the governing body of the JNVs and is an autonomous society that is located in New Delhi.
The JNVs offer education from Classes VI to XII; also, they are affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The admission of the pupils to the JNVs is conducted via the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) that the CBSE holds every year. The Class V aspirants can apply to the JNVST for admission to the JNVs.
The aspiring candidates have to apply via the official website, www.navodaya.gov.in. On the site, they have to download the online application form and follow by furnishing the required details. Then, along with the filled application form, they have to submit the mandatory documents as well.
After receiving the applications, the eligible candidates have to appear for the JNVST. The JNVST has multiple-choice questions and the candidates have 2 hours to answer the question paper. The total marks of the question paper are 100.
The JNVs are part of the National Policy of Education 1986 that aims to nurture the talent of rural-based youngsters. As per the policy, talented children can avail opportunities by receiving value-added education, notwithstanding their backgrounds or paying capacity. As a result, they are better equipped to compete with the urban population.
