The public Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University (KKHSOU) was instituted on the date 11th December 2006. The headquarters of the educational institution is situated in the city of Guwahati, the state of Assam, India. The Distance Education Council recognizes the University and the center’s offered courses. The jurisdiction of the university covers the entire state of Assam and beyond, as required, for the purpose of rendering distance education.

KKHSOU is counted among the 14 open universities in India and is also, the first Open University that was established in the North Eastern belt of India. The University has been named after Krishna Kanta Handiqui who was a renowned scholar and made an immense contribution towards the cause of education. His birthday falls on 20th July and thus, this date was declared as the University’s Foundation Day.

The University is managed from 3 sites including: the Main Campus at Patgaon in Guwahati; the City Office at Housefed Complex in Guwahati; and Jorhat Regional Centre.
At KKHSOU, the aspirants can apply for courses in disciplines such as Arts, Management, Science, Information Technology, and Mass Communications. Also, several vocational courses are conducted at the University.
