Formerly known as Arunachal University, Rajiv Gandhi University is a premier institution of higher education in the state. The foundation stone of the university was laid by then prime minister of India late Mrs. Indira Gandhi in the year in 1984 at Rono Hills where the present-day campus of the university is located. It is just 6.5 Km away from National Highway 52-A and 25 Km from the state capital Itanagar. The university is well-linked with all modes of transportation for the convenience of its students. The academic year of 2000-2001 was a great year for the university in terms of its achievements as the university switched over from an annual to semester system, various syllabi designated by Boards of Post-Graduate Studies (BPGS) were implemented and the VSAT facility was installed by the ERNET India program provides internet facility to the students.
