At Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University (TEMU), also referred to as Malayalam University, the courses are conducted in the Malayalam language. This initiative by the University authorities is aimed at promoting the Malayalam language, culture, and literature through study and research.
During the year 2012, the Kerala Government is recorded to have established TEMU, which is a public university.
The University is named after ‘Thunchaththu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan’ who is known as the ‘Father of Malayalam language’. In the 16th century, his writings contributed towards the development of the Malayalam language. Thus, he is highly revered in the Malayalam community. His birthplace is said to be Trikkantiyur, Thunchan Parambu, Tirur, Kerala.
Initially, there was no land that was allotted towards the University. Instead, the center’s operations were being managed from temporary buildings that were constructed on the grounds of Thunchan Memorial Government College, Tirur.
The aspiring students can enroll for postgraduate, diploma, and research courses, which are imparted in the Malayalam language, at TEMU. As part of the specialized and postgraduate courses at the premier educational institution, the emphasis lies on making the students familiar with Kerala’s rich cultural and academic culture. Also, the University has the mandate to build digital resources, libraries, museums, and archives for preserving Kerala’s traditional values.
At TEMU, the applicants can apply for courses in disciplines such as Media Studies, Cultural Heritage, Sociology, History, Journalism, and Mass Communication. For a complete listing of the University programs, the official website of the University malayalamuniversity.edu.in/en/ can be visited.
